WHY TRISH IS THE BEST CHOICE TO LEAD ALAMEDA SCHOOLS

I am a mom of four, an attorney, and a 14 year school volunteer who has served not only my children’s schools but every school in Alameda. My four children attended: Woodstock Child Development Center, Head Start, Earhart, Otis, Lincoln, Alameda High, Encinal, ACLC & Arthur Anderson. Stephanie graduated from UCSC double-major Computer Science & English/French minor, Sarah attends College of Alameda, and Elaine attends Harvard University. I have in-depth experience with the critical issues currently facing our school district and will continue to work to find creative, out of the box, solutions.

TRISH’S VISION FOR ALAMEDA SCHOOLS –

Working for Out of the Box, Creative Solutions

    ·         Provide quality education for every child.

My focus is creating an environment where every child has the opportunity to succeed. This requires smaller classes, rich curriculum, diverse electives, and advanced placement, career-technical, and vocational courses.  I strongly support the education of anti-bullying for all (differently-abled/special needs, ethnicities, gender, LGBTQ, race, religion) to ensure a safe learning environment.  Providing quality education for all is a challenging goal and requires meaningful collaboration with all of our stakeholders/”partners”:  parents, students, teachers, classified staff, maintenance staff, and community members.

    ·         Act with fiscal responsibility.

Fiscal responsibility is paramount to ensure each dollar is wisely spent benefiting students first.  Therefore, I voted against a significant raise for the Superintendent, leasing of new administrative offices, and contracting unneeded consultants.  Fiscal responsibility requires true transparency.  Important, controversial decisions being made in the summer, and Friday night meetings, is not transparency.

    ·         Kids First.”  Every Board decision must go towards providing quality education for all children and be fiscally responsible, so that we put “Kids First.”

Public education is critical to our children and our community.  Alameda is an incredible city with incredible people that truly care about public education and want the best for every child.  We can create an incredible public school system, second to none, when we move forward, working together, always putting “Kids First.”

    MY PLEDGE TO ALAMEDA STUDENTS

My extensive background working for our schools and my empathy for each child is needed to face the District’s challenges.  I pledge to continue to tackle the District’s quality-of-education, equity and fiscal challenges and ensure that I will seek a broad range of community input to my decisions.

I greatly appreciate your continued support, would be honored to have your vote on November 6, 2012, and, together, we will provide quality education to all our students!

    Sincerely,

    Trish Spencer
